Reading Diaries
In schools, which are members of the Library Project in Thailand, various activities to promote reading books are being carried out so that children get into the habit of reading. One of them is "Reading Diaries". In a notebook, children write outlines of and their thoughts on books they read, or rewrite sentences they are impressed as if they were writing diaries. Teachers check them regularly, helping children to keep reading and establish the habit of reading.
Voice in Line

Voice in Line is an activity in which children present the content of the books they read through a school public address system. Children decide a theme, research the topic and put together related information using the books in the library. Then, they interview with the adults around them if additional information is necessary, and, finally, they make a draft. Two children give their book reports to the whole school with an explanation about it. Under the guidance of teachers, children study various themes, including health, environment, dialects, current news and religious events.
The Story Telling Project
Based on the results of the activities designed to improve reading environments, children create stories and pictures in the Story Telling Project. Original picture books are made from these stories and pictures. Children enjoy making original picture books with advice about pictures and story making. This project began in the 2003 fiscal year.
Through Nomad’s continuous support in improving the reading environment in rural areas in Thailand, children and people have had more access to books, leading to a wide understanding of the importance of reading in the regions.
Through reading, children have come to be strongly interested in expressing what they feel and think through words, sentences and drawings. Nomad hopes that the Story Telling Project will arouse more children’s interest in reading and expression.
