The Library Project

Nomad helped finance repairs to two branches of the Lado Asatiani Children's Library in Tbilisi and supply Georgian books to the Library The Lado Asatiani Children's Library is one of the most important children's libraries in Georgia. Education was given in Russian before, but since independence education has come to be given in Georgian. The library buildings are in poor condition and there aren't enough Georgian books. Together with other groups in the region and schools, the Lado Asatiani Children’s Library has campaigns to encourage children to read, including various events and mobile libraries.

In the 2004 fiscal year, Library 1 in the Digomi Building and Library 3 in the Didube Building, branches of the Rado Asatiani Children’s Library, were repaired and 2,500 Georgian books popular with children were purchased by the support of Nomad. Books purchased were distributed not only in the libraries themselves but also in mobile libraries, which go round schools in Tbilisi, making it possible for many children to read them. In the renovated libraries, campaigns to promote reading have been scheduled.

Along with maintaining support for libraries in the future, Nomad plans to implement campaigns to promote children’s interest in reading in cooperation with librarians.

The support projects of Library 1 and Library 3 in the 2004 fiscal year were conducted with grants by The Peace Stone Foundation and The Japan International Cooperation System.
